Philosophy of Education

The Enlightened School is a developmentally appropriate and play based program. The Enlightened School’s primary principle is to promote participation in age-appropriate activities which include hands-on play, group story time, and themed activities. Our classrooms are divided into learning centers which encourage our students to learn through play. These learning centers include arts and crafts, building blocks & manipulatives, literacy, dramatic play, outdoor play, water play, nature and science, music and movement.

Arts & Crafts

Our arts & crafts center encourages our students to express their emotions and ideas in a fun and creative environment. All sorts of different textures and materials are used while students create their best art work. Our arts & crafts center helps develop fine motor skills as well as hand-eye coordination.

Building Blocks & Manipulatives

Our block center helps our students practice problem solving skills which allows our students to build unique structures and teaches the basics of engineering and architecture concepts. Manipulatives encourge problem solving skills and math concepts.

Literacy

Our literacy center is a quiet area to explore books, practice reading, and encourage verbal cues at a level that enables our students to express and understand ideas. Literacy helps our students to make decisions, solve problems, achieve their goals, and to become more knowledgeable about other students and eventually the world around them.

Dramatic Play

Our dramatic play center allows our students to accept and assign roles which gives them the opportunity to role play. This developmental learning process allows our students to develop skills in abstract thinking, literacy, math, and social studies.

Nature and Science

Our nature and science center helps our students expand their vocabulary  and develop a broader understanding of basic nature and science concepts. This center will provide our students with opportunities to explore the world around them through hands-on learning while nurturing their interests and concerns for our environment now and well into adulthood.

Music and Movement

Our music and movement center can expand the range of expressive possibilities which can enable our students to communicate through movement and respond to the mood and quality of art, music, and literature. This can help improve cognitive development, learning skills, fine and gross motor skills, and an expressive ability.
